Mount Sion Choir & Guests5€
Mount Sion Choir have played in St Patrick’s Gateway Centre before and this time they’re back with an appeal that you can help with.
They’re fundraising to send their choir of 21 students to London in September to record an original song with Don Mescall, written for Shane Filan. On Saturday 28th July for only €5 per ticket, show your support for Mount Sion Choir and their Guests – let’s get them to London!
Mount Sion Choir are based in Mount Sion CBS, Barrack Street, Waterford. We are a choir that meet every lunchtime to sing and hang out together. We are absolutely passionate about music and can think of nothing greater than entertaining people( young, old and everyone in between).
This year, we were blessed with good fortune and had a wonderful experience at the Young Bohemia Choral Festival in Prague. We were awarded Silver in our category, which was a great honour. We sang all over Prague and our videos were watched by thousands of people in Waterford and indeed, in Ireland. This trip has given us so many opportunities that we could have only dreamed of in the past.
In May, we were privileged to sing as a support act for Irish singer and songwriter, Don Mescall. Don was blown away by the students, their passion for music and their attitude to life. Don suggested recording a charity single, Your Love Carries Me, as a fundraiser for the choir.
However, we know from our experiences, that there are always people with greater problems, who need support more. Therefore, we have decided to support a local cancer support service, the Solas Centre and two teenage cancer support services, Can Teen and CanCare4living.
Our original plan was to record our part of the single in Waterford and Don Mescall would record his section in his studio in London. But fate would have it, that we now have this unique and amazing chance to go to LONDON and record the single with Don. We would get the opportunity to go in to a recording studio for the first time and expand the boys musical horizons in a phenomenal way.
This charity single will be launched in November. And to add to the magic, the choir will be performing with Don Mescall and guests in the University of Limerick Concert Hall on Tuesday, November 6th. This is actually what happens in movies, not to our little choir! We are incredibly grateful for these opportunities that are coming our way and we want to make everyone proud.
Our parents, students, school and entire Mount Sion community are behind this plan. We are fundraising, to help a little way, towards getting the students to London. We would truly appreciate any help or contribution you could make. We know Mount Sion past pupils are spread across the world and have been following the choir on Facebook. Also, there are people who have never visited Mount Sion but they love the videos the choir make. This is your chance to help these boys fulfill their dreams and to pass on our good fortune to worthy charities.
We have a concert in St. Patrick’s Gateway Centre on Saturday, July 28th and an Open Mike Night hosted by the choir in the Mount Sion GAA club on Saturday, August 11th and our go fund me campaign is the third way we hope to raise money. Our cut off date is Wednesday, August 15th, 2018.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Your kind words, encouraging emails and wonderful comments have given us such confidence. We always say that our choir may not always be pitch perfect, but you’ll never find a happier choir in the world and that’s priceless.
